Recently in the General forum lunarjarrett and myself have been discussing the new cahracter Shirly! Shirly is a worm with a love for scarfs...she seems good natured and straight forward. What do you think of Shirly?

I like her. Her underground maze is pretty cool. She seems older to me for some reason....But I love her scarf...I'm sort of a scarf fan...

I was trying to have shirly come off older, I want her to be more mature than our lead Eppie. I like her scarf alot too, I think it fits her personality well. She is alot of fun to draw...she has simple shapes at moments their very feminine. Hope you like future characters as much or more than you do Shirly!

I think Shirly is a great character- nice and simple. However, I wonder if she begins to shed light on what little eppie is on an adventure for or what he hopes to accomplish... perhaps she is where the story really begins- after her, I see the characters and storyline becoming progressively more intricate and elaborate and complicated.

*knods* I agree! I think Shirly is the type of character who holds many secrets and valuable knowledge. She certainly comes off as being more prepared than our little Eppie adventurer.
I wonder if her love for accessories extend beyond her very lovely striped scarf?

Thanks for the compliments on the underground scenes...their fun to draw.
I think our lead Eppie is so impressed with her underground dwelling because hes never been underground. This is his first time outside the canopy of his tree. I think too...hes just happy to have someone help him out. We'll see in the next few weeks if she can be trusted, or if she's hiding something. I think Shirly is too genuine to double cross her new friend. I mean she has a cool scarf, people with scarfs dont double-cross right?
I'm really excited about the next two pages being posted, well atleat one of them anyways, i think its gonna give a bit more meaning to the strip and help tie in the web-comic to the storyline in the new extended Eppie book. We'll see what everyone thinks on Saturday.

Shirly can't be trusted. Now she has our hero in a vulnerable state......

I think there is a lot more to Shirly than any of us know... I think she has some greater part to play in the story but if it is bad or good- who knows?!

So lunarjarrett, do you think that our lead Eppie is too trusting, or do you think Shirly really is evil? We'll see if saturday brings the demise of our Eppie Hero Elek or someinthg else sinister happens... You know I was sitting at work and I think I realized where the inspiration came for Shirly, has anyone watched the cartoon ro read the books by Richard Scary, "Busy world". If you have then youll know of my favorite character in the series, Lowly worm! When I created Shirly I wasnt thinking of Lowly nor did I even remember Busy world but a funny thing happened. I walked into a Wal-Mart and it had one of those rides for kids, it was an apple with Lowly driving! It hit me like a rock...my inspiriation for Shirly was tucked back in my brain from the years of my youth

Richard Scarry! Lowly wearing that space helmet was such a laugh! Such a classic, he's normally wearing that green felt Bavarian hat.
